Prospective Adult Members (Ages 18+)

Eligibility

Adult members must be...

  • at least 18 years old,

  • a US citizen or permanent resident with I-551 card,

    • Youth in the US who are not citizens or permanent residents, may still be able to join, with a citizenship waiver submitted by the squadron. The citizenship waiver requires documentation that shows the reason for being in the country and the length of permitted stay. 

  • considered suitable to serve as an adult member of the CAP,

    • Unsuitability examples may include prior criminal history, falsification of information on membership application, previous membership termination and/or non-renewal for cause from membership in CAP, other unfavorable information provided to CAP

  • able to pass an FBI Background Check. 

Adult Membership Categories

  • Active Member regularly attends meetings, performs a specific duty assignment, meets training requirements, and participates in the activities of the squadron.

  • Cadet Sponsor Membership allow parents, grandparents and guardians of current CAP cadets to assist the squadron's cadet program by providing adult supervision, transportation, overnight chaperons, and any other cadet related tasks deemed necessary and proper by the squadron commander.

Squadron Visit

Prospective adult members (also called senior members) are welcome to stop by any scheduled squadron meeting in order to observe and meet members of the squadron. During visits, prospective adult can observe squadron activities, discuss adult training opportunities, and ask questions to ensure that Civil Air Patrol and the squadron is the right fit for their commitment.

Open House Attendance

Throughout the year, the squadron hosts several open house events where prospective members learn more about Civil Air Patrol, the squadron and the onboarding process. Prospective members can register for the open houses using registration links that are posted on this website and the squadron's social media approximately 1 month prior to a scheduled event. 

Open House attendance is not mandatory in order to join the squadron, but the open house will count towards Civil Air Patrol's 3 "trial" meeting requirement before submission of a membership application. Regardless of availability to attend the open house, prospective members should still complete the online registration so that we capture important contact information. 

Application Process 

  1. Attend 3 meetings to learn about the organization, squadron, opportunities, expectations, and to meet with the unit membership board.

  2. Get fingerprinted during the meeting using fingerprint cards provided by the squadron. 

  3. Complete the paper Adult Membership Application and submit to Squadron Commander for approval. 

    1. Bring acceptable proof of identity to present along with your completed membership application.

  4. Mail approved membership application, completed fingerprint card, and check for membership dues to the address below

Onboarding

Once membership applications are approved by National Headquarters, new adult members will begin onboarding training during weekly meetings and an online learning management system.
